The Bridge has been the responsibility of about four Administrations since its construction. Remember that the Forth Bridge Railway Company was formed to construct and operate the Bridge. This entity continued from 1882 to 1947 a total of 65 years. This Company remained virtualy independant throughout the "Groupings" that took place in intervening years and in 1947 became part of the British Transport Commission, forerunner to British Railways and British Rail. In 1994 the Railway Infrastructure Company, Railtrack, was formed and privatised in 1996. This is now the Company which retains Stewardship of the Bridge and implements the current maintenance regime.The Bridge was painted by many people over many years even by Terence Cuneo!
